JamesSuckling.com Scores
Late last week we received some outstanding news from James Suckling.com namely his reviews on our 2020 vintage. I’m extremely pleased to announce we have a very high calibre set of wines with all scores outlined below.
97/100 Domaine Clarendon Syrah
96/100 Blewitt Springs Grenache
95/100 Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon
The incredible scores reflect the overall calibre of Clarendon Hills winemaking and the exceptional collection of old vine single vineyards spread throughout the McLaren Vale hillsides of Blewitt Springs and Clarendon. These scores also not only reinforce the recent excellent Wine Advocate reviews last month but also highlight a number of projects we have been undertaking recently and in a way, unearth our recent ambitions.
There are lots to enjoy but at the top of our list is the amazing score received on the Domaine Clarendon Syrah. 97/100 is the best score we’ve ever received on this wine, ever, from any vintage and the score reflects our pursuit of perfection within this estate-owned vineyard. From the beginning, Roman’s vision with this project has been to forge something unique that highlights the ancient and world-class Clarendon, McLaren Vale terroir with precision and flair. The Domaine Clarendon Syrah vineyard was planted in 2003 within the elevated and cool Clarendon sub-district with the ambition that it would ultimately become one of our best Syrah vineyards in time. After 17 years of patience, this winemaker-designed vineyard, totally unique, single-stake Syrah vineyard is now achieving the high scores we had always aspired. This wine is just $40 and is scoring like one of our top wines
To say we’re happy is an understatement. This is validation that we are on the correct pathway and that the last 20 years of getting here have been long and challenging. So get in fast to our website before it all goes. 97-point wine for under $50 is an absolute rarity – anyone who knows wine, knows these scores are reserved for only the top wines whose price tags are usually extremely lofty. Furthermore, the latest scores also highlight some absolute old gold within our portfolio – all Clarendon Hills fans will know both of these wines well – the Liandra Syrah and Blewitt Springs Grenache have just received yet another round of 96/100 points, respectively from James Suckling. These scores mirror the incredible Wine Advocate 96/100 reviews received recently and reinforce the pedigree of these sensational wines. They are both old vine, single vineyards in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale that are scoring like a wine worth twice or thrice the price. Each is generously endowed with high-fidelity floral components and amazing precision of fruit clarity and is an absolute steal at $65 a bottle.
The Onkaparinga Grenache also scored a handsome 96/100 from both James Suckling and the Wine Advocate. It also received glowing reviews from the Australian magazine Gourmet Traveller Wine scored it at 96/100 and was also awarded ‘Hottest New Release’ and ‘Recommended’ status. Meanwhile, our flagship Romas Grenache, with the re-designed black and silver label received the highest score of 98/100 from both James Suckling and Wine Advocate this year and is the highest-scored Grenache in Australia this year. The 2020 Romas has sold out this year, but keep your eyes out for the new vintage 2021 coming online in the next few months for Christmas.
