2013 Clarendon Hills Onkaparinga Syrah

10 years in. the cellar has done wonderous things to this majestic example of Blewitt Springs Syrah. The Onkaparinga vineyard is perched atop the ancient Onkaparinga Gorge and is the highest elevated Blewitt Springs vineyard we make. The site is rich with minerals and ironstone and quartz and shale scatter the terroir to yield a highly mineral-rich cuvee. The 10 cellar maturation has developed the tertiary complexities and the primary fruits are now a backseat to the wondrous earth, loam, forest floor, mahogany, leather game meat connotations this wine currently yields. This is a fantastic example of a Grand Cru vineyard with 10 development under its belt and its iconic terroir is now the primary complexity driver of this wine. Lifted earthy perfume and a silken, multi-layered palate with no hard edges confirms this example as one of the best vineyards in McLaren Vale at peak drinking time.
