We just received a wonderful score 96/100 and tasting note from Marcus Ellis at Wine Companion.
“Taken from the top section of the ’46-planted vines on deep sand over clay, quartz and ironstone, this cuvée has shrunk in volume. That’s not a vintage thing, as the yields were good, but rather a decision to focus on those top rows, which have a greater concentration of quartz. There’s a subdued swirl of floral notes, a compressed summer-berry character, a mineral overlay of hammered iron, struck flint and crushed rock, some scrubby herbs. It’s savoury, with tobacco, ground spices, some coffee, a little oak, albeit older, showing its hand. There’s a renewal at this, always fine, address, and the future is bright.” 96/100 Wine Companion, Marcus Ellis.
