This estate-grown and made single vineyard site lies in the outer reaches of Blewitt Springs where the sands are deep and heavily laced with ironstone deposits and the underlying iron-rich clays forge a terroir of classical proportion. Named after Clarendon Hills founder, Roman Bratasiuk’s residence, the Liandra Syrah has been a pivotal ingredient in our portfolio since 1997. Made especially famous in 2008 when the wine scored equal to the famous Henschke Hill of Grace by the US magazine Wine Spectator. It’s no surprise that the 2006 vintage sold out immediately at $78 a bottle.
Today its position within the Clarendon Hills portfolio hasn’t changed. It’s a Premier Cru classed site that has a strong potential, when the year is right, to produce filigreed detail and complexity.
The most modern iteration of the Liandra Syrah is the 2022 pictured above. The label has undergone a rejuvenation of late. This is to communicate the considerable evolution of our house style of recent times and its evolution towards earlier enjoyment. This wine is an incredible young example. It’s already silky smooth and has an exceptionally elegant extract. Classic Syrah tones of black olive, salami, grilled meat and black currant all delivered across a lithe, silky smooth palate are absolutely delicious. Experiencing the intensity of a fresh and young vintage, without any detrimental hard edges is what it’s all about. I implore you to taste this latest release. The bottle won’t last an hour.
