Clarendon Hills Liandra Syrah 2016

The Clarendon Hills Liandra Syrah site is located in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale. Situated in a sandy section of the famous Blewitt Springs sands, the site reveals a mid weight expression that shows well after a few years in the cellar. Offering lifted floral notes that typically mix with bacon fat, leather and roast meats; the satsuma plum backbone and silken texture offers a youthful approachability and a lengthy opportunity in the cellar to pursue those truffled, earthy characters wine aficionados seek.

“This single-vineyard wine offers a multitude of heady aromas, from tangy currant, blueberry and black cherry to crushed rose petal, tree bark, black olive, peppercorn and soy sauce. The palate is restrained, even austere at first, with taut, talc textured tannins and crunchy acidity, but with time, layers of flavor emerge, backed by fine French oak. Despite its muscles, this could be sipped now with a decanter and protein at hand, or cellared until 2031 at least.”

The Wine Enthusiast

” Lots of cassis and jammy blackberry fruits as well as eucalyptus, flowers, white pepper, and bacon fat emerge from the 2016 Syrah Liandra Vineyard, another seamless, gorgeously pure Syrah from this team. I love its purity of fruit. It’s medium to full-bodied and has a solid sense of freshness, silky tannins, and a great finish.”

” Exuberant and complex with aromas of cloves, pepper and hard brown spices and a dark, black-cherry and blackberry thread. This is plush and ripe on the nose with a very defined, powerful yet elegant feel. Smoothly rendered finish with a great sense of concentration and depth. Immense, dark-plum and berry flavors here. Drink or hold.”
